Celebrating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death

The staff at West Rise put on an outstanding performance of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

It was really good fun but quite hard saying all of the Shakespearean language!

The children will be writing stories, recounts and newspaper reports from what they have learned.

Thank you Ms Somerville for all your hard work in organising this performance.

Coffee Morning / Afternoon Tea

Coffee

I would love to get our coffee mornings / afternoon teas up and running again for parents/carers as these have been a great success in the past.

If you would be interested in these would you please leave a comment below to say what days and times would be more convenient for you.  Maybe a coffee and biscuit just after dropping the children off would be good or a cuppa and cake before picking the children up may be a better idea.

Maybe you would like to do some crafts while having a cuppa, it will be very informal, let me know what you think or if you have any other ideas.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

BREAKFAST CLUB AT THE JUNIOR SCHOOL

Breakfast club is available daily from 7:45 – 8:30 am, when the children are escorted onto the playground.  All children are welcome to come along at a cost of £3 per child per morning.

For breakfast the children  have a choice of healthy cereals, toast or scrambled egg (eggs from our own West Rise chickens!) and fruit juice.  Fresh fruit is also available daily and choice varies from day to day.

Recently Breakfast club supported Fair Trade Fortnight and the foods the children ate during the two weeks were researched and located on the world map.

For this week and next week the children have been/will be decorating eggs for Easter.  We are also planning to do an egg and spoon assault course!

The children also get the opportunity to use the sports hall where they can improve their skills in basketball, badminton, ball games and football.

Breakfast club is now lead by Val Lumby, Angela Worsfold and Tanya Griffin.

WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Well done everyone at West Rise Junior School, that is including children, parents & carers and staff.

With all the donations and activities that were going on Friday we managed to raise £445.31 for Comic Relief.

You are all brilliant!!

PARENT/CARER CONSULTATION EVENINGS

Thursday 26th March 3:30 – 5:30pm

All after school clubs will continue apart from Performance Academy.

EXCITING BEE NEWS!

On Wednesday 25th June, we will be getting our latest school pets. Almost one million Bees!

We have set up 12 hives which the children, with the help of Karen Stephens, have painted with pictures inspired by the marsh. They form a large circle of hives which are part of our West Rise Bee Sanctuary. Local, skilled bee keepers are running the project, which will see our children learning about these amazing creatures first hand.

The type of bee we are getting is called the “Native British Black Bee”, thought until recently to be extinct. Bees are becoming endangered, due to modern farming methods, and without bees to pollinate the plants, which humans and animals eat, humans would also endanger themselves.

Last Friday, during our school Bee Fest on the marsh, an amazing thing happened! A wild swarm of bees moved into one of the hives the kids had painted! They found the hive on their own and are now living there.

We will keep you updated as the project progresses and hopefully you will be tasting some West Rise honey really soon!

OUR VERY FIRST BEE FEST ON THE MARSH

Our very first Bee Fest on the marsh on Friday was a huge success.  The children took part in a wide variety of activities including pond dipping, archery and bird watching to name just a few and had a wonderful day.

A big thank you to everyone who helped – staff, parents, carers and Forest School volunteers.

The weather was kind, which made the after school family picnic even more enjoyable.  The children sang, played, covered themselves in clay and swam in the lake.

A marvellous time was had by all!
